Still in Azrou, under the cherry trees, lazily picking ripe fruit from above our heads. ! Camping Amazigh, ( think Amazirr ) is a cherry orchard as well as a campsite. Rooms too. £4.50 a night for the two of us and the van !
But to get here, we left Sefrou and headed up into the Midle Atlas to find a Lake that we had spotted on our map. And what a lake we found. Dayet Aaoua.
Obviously a popular destination for local people as picnics were in full swing when we arrived mid morning. We set up on a secluded flat patch and took in atmosphere. Bird life aplenty. Fresh cool air, warm sunshine and trees.
Birds, or as we call them, flap wings, are of great interest as they are straight in front of the van and even naming them becomes a joy, especially for Krysia.

A Roller !
So beautiful.

An Egret.
Feeding and flying in front of the van.
And a red knobbed Coot ! Among many 'ordinary' Coots ! You can just see his knobs on top of his head !

Aptly drawn by Krysia at dusk.

Coots at dusk !
If you look closely, you can see the knobs on the coot in the centre.
Do I detect a hint of 'Twitcher' coming on in Krysia !
or is it tweeter ? Bird enthusiast.
Flapwings the lot of them !!
And not forgetting the Flamingos. Who were a bit more elusive. We've not seen wild Flamingos before. !
General life and interest surrounded us.

As the day wore on, we watched the sun go down and spent the night where we were.

As colourful as Krysia
The following day, we set off after breakfast and after some sketching ! to Azrou. But not before leaving the beautiful Dayet Aaoua.
And stopped for lunch on the way, at the almost dried out Dayet Hachlaf. Sun shining, wind blowing and shade under the trees. Perfect. And local shepherds guarding their flocks.

A drive over the top of the Mountains, past a ski resort ! obviously now closed, and we drop down through the ceder trees to Azrou.
Which brings us to cherry heaven. !
